What Came First the Site or the Post?

muralI Know Chicken came about as a result of Jeff and Travis’ quest for some top notch chicken. No matter what, living in Sacramento we generally have to settle for second best in most things (if we’re lucky), so having to settle for second best chicken was nothing new.

Upon on a meandering journey to consume delicious foodstuffs, we came across a crossroads of sorts.  On the right, a Long John Silvers, a place known for fried fish and chicken that tasted exactly the same.  To the left was Popeye’s, a poor man’s chain of Cajun delights.  Jeff, not familiar with the delectable flavor extravaganza of Popeye’s creole tastings, levitated towards the more familiar taste of fishy chicken (or chickeny fish).

With utmost confidence, Travis assured Jeff that Popeye’s was the way to go and told him that this would be the best chicken they’ll find all day.  Jeff asked, “Are you sure?”  Travis simply replied, “I know chicken.”

Who was Jeff to doubt the legendary appetite of a supposed renowned chicken connoisseur?  So with the slightest of sighs, Jeff conceded to Travis’s knowledge of delicious fowl.

Jeff walked up to the counter, ordered a couple of po’ boys and waited patiently for what promised to be a revelation for the taste buds.  After the food arrived ten minutes later (which is not terribly fast for fast food), Jeff bit into his greasy sandwich, chewed, swallowed and then looked into Travis’s general direction.  “You son of a bitch.  This is not very good and you don’t know chicken.”  Travis laughed this off as he proceeded to enjoy his red beans and rice with his spicy leg and thigh.  Not even Jeff could ruin his small victory.

Upon considering names for the website, the phrase “I know chicken” was a reoccurring candidate.  It ultimately stuck (plus it helped that it was wholly available).  The name was reserved and a website was born.  God help us all.
